Communities of Tomorrow extends our heartfelt gratitude to the late Carl Cotton for believing in our vision and helping shape the future of The Rail District.
Carl shared a powerful family story that inspired the heart of this community. His grandmother, Mrs. Addie Cotton, was the first African American woman in their family to own a home a courageous and trailblazing accomplishment. She understood that homeownership could provide stability, freedom, and generational progress.
Mrs. Addie Cotton passed that wisdom to her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mable Cotton, teaching her the importance of real estate investment and building lasting wealth. Their knowledge and determination laid the foundation for the next generation Horace Jr., Carl, and Cletis.
Inspired by the women who came before him, Carl purchased his first property in 1995. He went on to acquire more than 100 properties, continuing his family’s remarkable legacy of ownership, investment, and empowerment.
To honor Carl and the Cotton family’s legacy, we named our Cottage Court development Cotton Court. It represents the strength of family, the power of knowledge, and the belief that every home can be the beginning of something extraordinary.
Rest in peace, Carl Cotton. Your faith in Communities of Tomorrow, your contributions to The Rail District, and your family’s legacy will never be forgotten.
